I found the room clean, and the people were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel upgraded me to the Sweet room with a jacuzzi whirlpool at the same rate. Brent, the security officer, was Manning the roller Dog grill and offered me food and a Coke. The place gets a bad rap in this review section, but this is not a homeless shelter. The hotel is owned by the tribe that operates the shooting Star casino, and some casino employees stay here long-term. I've reviewed a lot of hotels, so give me a little credit when I say this isn't sketchy. If you want to read about sketchy places, look at my past reviews, like international falls Minnesota.

We were stuck there during We Fest, and this was hands down the worst hotel experience I've had. When we checked in, the AC was off, so we assumed it needed time. Ten hours later the room was over 85 degrees. There was no hot water when we tried to cool off with a shower, and the TV didn't work either. I went to the front desk twice. They said they knew about the hot water problem and bad AC units, and that new ones were coming, but nobody knew when anything would be fixed. They also said several other guests had the same complaints. The hotel was fully booked, so we couldn't change rooms. With We Fest going on, every other hotel within 20 miles was sold out or over $400 a night. We were stuck. I told them I wouldn't pay for the stay, and I meant it. Past reviews make it clear these AC problems have been going on for a while without a fix. Wish I could give this place zero stars. Do NOT stay here.

I don't know much yet about what this hotel offers since it was my first stay. The rooms were nice and clean, with a microwave and mini fridge. I liked having laundry service, and you can open the windows too. I'd stay again and recommend it.

We liked it enough to add an extra night. It's affordable and simple, with personal, great customer service and private jacuzzi rooms. There's a nice balance between charming older features and a well-kept standard hotel. Pleasant and cozy. The bad reviews are wrong and made up. It's a well-kept secret in Detroit lakes.
