Trumbull and Porter Hotel

We were able to check into our king room at 11 am after arriving early for a ballgame, and the staff were very friendly. Comerica Park is close by, and I know some guests walk there, though we didn’t. The bed was comfortable, and I liked the hotel’s boho look, with concrete floors and modern fixtures. The building seems old, and while it’s been refurbished, it felt like the work only went far enough to get by. We could hear people yelling through the thin walls at night. The attached "restaurant" serves drinks only, no food. The shower has just one fixed panel, leaving the back open, so it felt drafty and water got onto the bathroom floor. There was no grab bar for getting out onto the wet floor. We showered before bed, which was lucky because there was no hot water in the morning and my husband had to shave with cold water. It wasn’t a terrible stay, but I wouldn’t come back.

The bartender was friendly, and the bar itself was nice. The room was small, and while the industrial design was okay, the bare overhead bulbs put me off. I can see what they were going for with the look, but it didn’t feel comfortable or cozy to me. The place was fine, just somehow off-putting.

The gated parking is free, which is unusual downtown, and the courtyard fire pit is a great place to hang out. They should advertise it more. The location is good, the staff have always been on point, and it’s dog friendly too. The rooms are clean, the bed is nice, and the minimal setup hasn’t caused me any problems. It’s not a high-end hotel and doesn’t claim to be, but for the price it’s good value. I’d recommend it, depending on what you want from a downtown stay.

Stefanie did a great job cleaning our room, and when I came back for my lost smart ring, she was honest and returned it. The hotel looks beautiful and smells great inside. It has a minimal, resort-like feel, with simple decor, cozy beds, and clean modern bathrooms. The shower only has a half door, though, and there’s no microwave. We found plenty to do nearby, and the price was excellent. Parking was $10, and the staff kindly charged me for my car but not my partner’s. Check-in was at 4pm and checkout at 11am the next morning. The bar was great too, especially the spicy margarita.
