Atlantic Oceanside Dewey

We used to stay here regularly, but this trip has put an end to that. The location was good, yet the whole visit was frustrating. At the start, staff tried to charge extra for our dogs even though Booking.com included them in the price. Booking.com had to call the hotel before they fixed it. Later, my card was charged more without my authorization. When I questioned it, the general manager said the amounts were only pending and suggested my bank had charged me twice. The invoice she gave me didn't show the charges, but my bank confirmed they were real, not pending. I found her response dishonest and unprofessional, and we won't be coming back.

We paid $477 for one night and regretted it. The place was run down, the room was dirty and the noise was awful, with no soundproofing. My husband and I checked out early and accepted the loss just to get some peace and sanity. The website is very deceiving. Don't spend your time or money here.

Friday and Saturday nights were especially rough: people came back around 2 am, shouting, banging on doors, and making a lot of noise without considering other guests. Inside our room, the air conditioner couldn't keep it cool, ants covered the bathroom sink, and the shower drain backed up until we finished showering. The blind was torn and patched with duct tape, paint was peeling, surfaces hadn't been wiped after the previous guests, and the bed had no headboard, just a wall and one pillow. The online photos gave a misleading impression. We paid for five nights and were very disappointed, but the cancellation terms meant there was no way to get our money back once we'd arrived and found these problems. We'll find somewhere else for future trips to Dewey/Rehoboth.

For Memorial Day weekend we stayed at the Atlantic Ocean Side and had a great time. The place and rooms were clean, and everyone on staff was friendly and professional. It's an easy walk to downtown restaurants and shops, with the beach just steps away. I also appreciated how welcoming it is to pets. We'd happily come back.
