Surf Club Oceanfront Hotel

We’re three hundred miles away, but my youngest wants us to go back every day of the week. It worked really well for our family, with comfortable accommodations that still felt upscale enough for the adults. There are amazing restaurants close by, and we’ll definitely return.

We’ve been here for a long weekend in mid-September two years in a row. It’s a two-star place, and to me it delivers what that promises: basic, budget-friendly lodging with a modest amount of comfort and convenience. The rooms have private bathrooms, TVs, a pretty well-equipped kitchen, dining and sofa space, and limited services such as housekeeping and a front desk. The oceanfront room’s floor-to-ceiling windows give you gorgeous views. Staff have been wonderful and accommodating both times, servicing our room as requested and even adding decorations for a special occasion. Parking can be tight because of the area’s infrastructure, but there’s a spacious overflow lot just a few steps away. I’m surprised by the negative reviews. This is a really great option in Dewey Beach.

The oceanfront room was spacious and comfortable, with the promised view, but we won’t be back. Parking was a major problem. Staff told us where to park, so we left our car there with our parking pass displayed and a handicap placard. After taking our luggage up to the room and returning, we found a ticket on the windshield, supposedly after just five minutes. We weren't the only guests this happened to. We met someone who got a ticket on his first day too. The hotel denied responsibility. Since we’re handicapped, we ended up parking down the street and walking back. There’s no elevator. I found the staff, especially the manager, rude and unaccommodating, and either uninformed or in cahoots with the local government. You can hear everything from the room above, and while there’s coffee in the lobby, there’s no breakfast. I won't stay here again and don't recommend it.

We loved the location and the friendly staff, and the large windows gave us ocean views. We’ll absolutely return.
