It used to be an okay, inexpensive place when it was still a Super 8, nothing fancy but decent. Now it’s badly run down and needs serious reinvestment. I’m not sure it would pass a health and safety inspection. There are large cracks in the walls and ceiling, as if the building had been through an earthquake, and nobody patched them. The main hotel entrance card reader is broken, so anyone can get in. The sprinkler head is set into the ceiling so that if it were triggered by a fire, the water would go into the space between the first and second floors instead of spreading around the room. The bathtub floor has a crack with sharp edges. The toilet paper holder is barely attached on one side. There’s mold or mildew around the toilet bowl, tub drain, and faucet. A bathroom light doesn’t work, there are spiderwebs in one ceiling corner and mystery stains on the ceiling, the Wi-Fi keeps dropping, and the window screen is bent so far out that a house cat could get in. This isn’t a place to stay unless there’s new ownership that understands how to maintain it and why that matters.

I travel to these hotels a lot for work, and this one is shabby. It needs an upgrade. The refrigerator hummed and knocked all night, the TV picture was wonky and it didn’t work well, the bathroom fixtures squeaked and whistled, and the radio played static until I unplugged it. It’s actually one of the pricier value hotels, which makes the need for an upgrade stand out even more.

The room was trashed, with ants and cockroaches all over, including dead cockroaches in the bed. Housekeeping didn’t come by once during our three nights. There were holes in the walls, sheets, blankets, and just about everything you can name. The sheets and mattress had bodily fluid stains, and there seemed to be urine stains on the mattress. The pillows were blood stained, and there were smoke stains on the walls. Hair and dead bugs were everywhere because the furniture hadn’t been cleaned out. The bathroom floor still had hair and dead skin. The carpet was stained and turned our feet and socks black, and it was pulled away from the wall with food coming out of it. The furniture was falling apart, and the walls had weird sticky spots. The AC didn’t work. When we told management, they said they couldn’t help. The towels were frayed, torn, and stained with who knows what. The hallways reeked of marijuana and cigarettes, and the staff were completely unhelpful. I’m not one to complain, but being here has been miserable and extremely unsafe. I hurt my leg at a concert and couldn’t get into the building because there were no ramps. A nonslip mat blocked the door, and I kept tripping over it trying to get inside. This place is absolutely disgusting. It’s violating multiple health code rules and unfit to operate. Do not book it under any circumstance. Zero stars.

The internet was the deal-breaker, and we left after one night of a six-night booking. We came to drop off our kids at UC Davis and had some work to do virtually. The Wi-Fi was only just enough for checking email. Buffering went on endlessly, and we couldn’t manage even short five-minute Zoom or Teams calls, including two early meetings. We were willing to pay for the night we stayed, but the manager wouldn’t waive the 24-hour early checkout charge, so we paid for two nights, losing about $100. The hotel’s internet just wasn’t useful for our needs. There were plenty of other problems. Water leaked under the sink, and my 67-year-old husband slipped, though he caught himself on the edge. With the drain closed, old skin, dirt, or some other really gross stuff came up from beneath it into the bowl, so he chose not to shave or use the sink. The old towels were rough, stained, and frayed, and there were only about one and a half sets for two people, so we had to share. Some drawers had no pulls, which meant using our nails to open them. There was only one regular and one decaf coffee pod for two people. We went to the front desk looking for a coffee machine, but there wasn’t one. We had to walk around to the other side of the hotel because the door from the main hallway to the check-in foyer was locked. We could have changed rooms because of the sink, called for more coffee pods and towels, or gone to the nearby Walmart for shampoo and washcloths. But the Wi-Fi couldn’t be fixed that way. Looking back, the locked doors and security window at the desk made this seem like an unsafe environment. We could only speak loudly through a window with a dip in the desk for a pen, like at a high-security bank. We won’t stay here again and certainly wouldn’t recommend it. We moved a mile down the road to the Best Western, paid another $30-40 a day, and got breakfast, fruit, and coffee all day. That more than made up the price difference, and now we have clean, fresh linens. The linens and furniture here were old, stained, and falling apart. Fixtures were leaking and dirty, and the amenities were below standard, with too few bath linens, washing soap, and coffee for standard double occupancy. Photos below.

There were literally bugs on the bed the first night, and I kept seeing them around the room for the rest of my short stay. Completely disgusting and made me uncomfortable. The rooms are hideous, though looks aren’t a huge deal, and the furniture is beat up and broken. The lights didn’t work, the fridge was falling apart, and the pool stayed green and nasty the whole time, so it was basically unusable and a big disappointment. The cleaning people weren’t great at their jobs and seemed really sketchy. I saw them cleaning rooms with their kids there, and the kids were barefoot, walking around on the floor. The pillows were awful and uncomfortable, and they gave me neck pain. The AC and heat worked perfectly, and the room was really quiet even though it was next to a freeway. Wouldn’t recommend it. You’re better off at another hotel.
