Tru by Hilton North Richland Hills DFW West

The room and especially the bed were lovely, and the pool and delicious breakfast were nice extras. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and I liked the price. My family and I enjoyed our stay, and I’d recommend the hotel. The one real inconvenience was the shower temperature. I like cold showers after outdoor activities on the weekend, but the water started warm and got steaming hot. I had to carry buckets of cold water from the sink and even add ice to get it to a temperature I wanted, so I couldn’t enjoy a cool shower.

My family and I spent four days at the Tru Hotel for our son’s 7th birthday, and it was the worst hotel stay ever. On the last morning, we were ready to head home for good showers and a rest. I hope this helps other families choosing a place to stay. When we arrived, nobody came to the front desk for 30-35 minutes. Once we got into the room, I did my usual check. The towels had brown stains, the bed was hard, the AC barely worked, shower pressure was low, the water was kind of cold, and the toilet had problems. The next morning, the fruit at breakfast looked old, and there weren’t many options. When I tried to have snacks charged to my room as we checked out, the man at the desk got upset and said I should have told him before he started putting things in the system. I was taken aback. I didn’t realize adding a room charge took a genius. That night I asked the lobby for hot water. It was cold at first; the woman changed it, but then it came out brown. By day three I’d had enough. Staff were lazy and rude, including the cleaning lady. When I asked her for a clean towel, she rolled her eyes and said she didn’t speak English. Whatever language you speak, kindness matters.

The room was dirty enough that my wife had to clean it, and the front desk said they were out of towels when I asked for two bath towels, two hand towels, and two washcloths. The man offered bath mats from the floor as a substitute. How can a hotel run out of towels for guests to shower with? Tru has treated us well before, so this was a real disappointment. We stay here whenever I visit my mother, and we also used to stay at a Tru in Lincoln Nebraska when visiting our son. We won’t return to this hotel or that Tru. We’ll go back to Holiday Inn Express. Seriously, who runs out of towels and washcloths?

This seems fine for a business trip, but I wouldn’t bring my wife here. I’m a Hilton Diamond member and stay at Hiltons often. The shower pressure was very good, but the service was awful. I waited at the check-in desk, and a couple of other customers came and waited too. Eventually I used my digital key to go to the room. I could have done that when I first arrived, but I wanted a hard key and some water. The only Diamond member perk here. When I came back downstairs, the employee was there, so I got water and a key. Later I returned to ask for a glass, but the desk was empty again. I checked every cabinet in the area that I could open and found nothing.
