Courtyard by Marriott Dothan

The lobby was inviting, and the front desk worker was very helpful and nice. The price was good and the location convenient, but this Courtyard by Marriott in Dothan, Alabama needs some updates. We usually stay at Courtyard by Marriott locations because they tend to be well kept and reasonably priced. The elevator seemed old and jerky, with some lights out, so it was hard to tell what it was doing while we waited to get back on. Our room had a musty, stale smell, though the main area was fine. The bathroom needs work: I couldn’t open the closet doors by the vanity, and the shower was in rough shape. A shelf inside was about to fall off the wall, and the water pressure was so weak that my wife and daughter didn’t even try to wash their hair. The beds were okay, but the pillows were worn out and offered no support. I wouldn’t stay here again if I travel to Dothan.

The bugs kept showing up throughout the weekend, in the shower, on the carpet, by the desk, and even on Sunday morning when I woke to find one alive. My family and I were very uncomfortable. Housekeeping never came during our stay, either. We got no fresh towels or washcloths, no basic tidying, and no one asked whether we needed supplies replenished. These cleanliness and upkeep problems made the stay disappointing. The staff were warm and provided excellent customer service, but that couldn’t make up for the issues. I hope this feedback leads to improvements: pest control throughout the whole building, a review of daily housekeeping routines, room renovations to bring them closer to the updated lobby, and ongoing staff training in cleanliness and guest service. I’ve always associated Marriott with high quality, which made this stay especially disappointing. I trust these concerns will be taken seriously so future guests can get the comfort and quality Marriott is known for.

The room was roomy, clean, and smelled fresh, with comfortable beds and a hot shower that had a strong stream. The lobby was spotless and welcoming, with a great view, and the friendly front desk made us feel at home. The bar was fully stocked and everything looked nice. All in all, a very nice hotel.

Cody gave me the best service I’ve ever had at a hotel. He was incredibly friendly and professional. Elena was especially helpful too. The best in Dothan.
