Motel 6 Dothan, AL

We were in room 211 for a concert and had a perfectly fine stay. The room was clean and didn’t smell, though it’s a little dated. We heard some people talking outside their room, but otherwise it was pretty quiet. The location is hard to beat, close to most things, and I’d stay here again.

The bed and laminate floor looked new, but the photos of this motel are wildly misleading. The building itself is in terrible shape, and our old door was falling apart. There was mold all over the bathroom, including the ceiling and side of the tub, and the room reeked of weed and cigarettes. I don’t mind those things in general, but I don’t want to sleep in the smell. The TV had Wi-Fi, but getting it connected took 20 minutes and required a convoluted setup through my phone. That felt like a cheap, penny-pinching choice by the owners. We’d driven all day and arrived late, so we stuck it out, but set an alarm for 4 a.m. to get out as quickly as possible. This was disgusting even by roadside motel standards. The two exterior-access motels across the street and next door seemed like they’d be better choices. Try one of those and save yourself a nightmare.

We checked out at 6:30 and told the desk clerk it was the worst infestation I’d ever seen. The night before, we checked in at 5 p.m. to room 123, where the counter service was very friendly. Within 15 minutes, I was seeing roaches, four in all around the room, including one on my wife’s purse. I was exhausted, so I went to bed and tried not to let it bother me. At 5 a.m., a large one, about three quarters of an inch, was on the wall right in front of me as I sat on the bed, and another was on the floor. My wife put a sandwich in the microwave with the door open while we went to the office for coffee. When we came back, there were two roaches on the sandwich.

My friend paid for a special night, and we were both unhappy with how nasty the room was. There were roaches, the sink wasn’t clean, and the microwave smelled like noodles. The towels had spots as if they hadn’t been cleaned, and the bedspread was stained. The TV remote didn’t work, so we had to get another one. Up close, the room looked nothing like the picture, and the wall seemed to have a crack. I think my friend should get her hard-earned money back.
