Country Inn & Suites by Carlson Dover, Ohio

For my first stay with this hotel, it was a very good experience and I'd choose it again. The rooms are large, the bed was wonderful, and the linens were great. The bathroom had a spacious, spa-like feel, though the big shower needs grab bars for safety and somewhere to put a towel. Breakfast was great and fully stocked, with good seating and an employee keeping things clean and replenished.

The beds were pretty nice, but the pillows flatten out in an uncomfortable way, so bring your own. The pool and hot tub were clean and open late, breakfast was decent, and the staff were friendly. The place was very clean, too. We happened to meet the owners at a local winery that night, and they were very nice people. We'll definitely stay again, since we're only two hours away, just with our own pillows next time.

The staff really stood out for a no-frills motel. Housekeeping went out of their way to greet and thank guests. After checkout, one of them came over holding a pair of glasses and asked if we'd lost them. We had, though we hadn't realized it yet. She remembered our room, checked it after seeing us leave, spotted the glasses on the floor, and followed up with us. The front desk agents were courteous and efficient at check-in. They offered complimentary cookies, smiled, stood to help, and answered the phone pleasantly. The building may not have luxury amenities, but the service makes up for that. The place also has generously sized rooms and complimentary hot breakfast. The enclosed pool was clean, so you can swim even when it's chilly outside. There's a meeting space and a pretty big lounge that worked perfectly for our after-party gathering. One suggestion for management: please give the front desk agents seats. They can stand to greet and assist guests, but don't need to stand for no reason.

The location just off interstate 77 is beautiful and quiet, and it's close to all the Amish attractions. We spent a couple of nights here and really enjoyed it. The whole place was spotless, the pool and hot tub were great, and the hot breakfast was excellent, with something different each morning. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to stay.
