Holiday Inn Express Dover

I spent a week in Dover and had a great stay. The bed was big and comfortable, and there was plenty of room. We were right next to the elevator, which wasn't ideal, but there was very little noise. I only wish the pool had been open while it was in the 90s outside. It's open Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The room felt cramped for a king, almost like a shoebox, and the layout made it awkward for two people to pass. If one person was leaving the bathroom while another entered the room, someone had to stop and wait. That wasn't the only frustration. I arrived around 11 a.m. on Friday, April 17, and waited about five minutes at the empty front desk, hearing staff talking in back before anyone came out. Allison then said there were no rooms before even asking my name. I came back about 45 minutes later and checked in without a problem, which made the first exchange more confusing. That evening, staff were talking loudly and yelling on speakerphone from personal devices, which felt unprofessional. As an IHG employee, I expected more. This stay didn't meet the service and standards I associate with the brand.

The check-in ended with us leaving to find another hotel. I’d booked through expedia for four people, with two beds, but Vincent said the reservation was for an accessible room with one queen bed and refused to help us get a room with two. There was nobody at the front desk when we arrived, so I had to call for service. After about ten minutes of arguing, we gave up. I couldn’t believe anyone thought four people could share one bed. The service was terrible, and customer satisfaction clearly didn’t come first. I would never stay here. Horrible.

The breakfast gets going before the posted 6:30 time, which is a nice bonus. Rooms were very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the linens were good. Convenient location, too. I liked having grind-and-brew coffee.
