Homewood Suites by Hilton DuBois, PA

Our family was in Dubois for my mother-in-law's funeral, and several families stayed here. The dining room and hallways had no heat; when we asked about warming the dining area where our family had gathered, an employee said they couldn't control the heat there. The listed pool and hot tub had both been closed for two years, the food wasn't very good, and the second-floor ice maker was broken with no sign it would be fixed soon. The room also needed work. The baseboards were dirty, wallpaper was peeling, the toilet had no lid and had been installed crooked to keep the door from hitting it. The bedspread was put on wrong, the pillowcases had holes, and I had to remake the bed. A fixture part that should hold the light shade was missing and wasn't replaced. Maybe I'm picky, but for what it cost, I expected better.

Amy at the front desk was terrific from check-in onward. The housekeeping crew did a great job too, as did the gentleman who prepared and hosted breakfast. Keep it up!

I was here for a two-week work assignment, and the friendly staff, decent breakfast, full-size fridge, and kitchen area were all pluses. The back patio had two grills and a fire pit, and the Wednesday evening gathering with free beer and wine was nice. But the room was dirty. I bought bleach at Walmart because the shower basin and caulking were so grimy, and I still couldn't get all the mold off. On check-in day, the paper towels I used to clean the bathroom floor came away BLACK. Housekeeping was hit or miss: some days the bed was made and the room cleaned, other days only the trash was emptied, and several days there was no cleaning at all. All three washers were out of order the entire stay, as were the pool and gym. I expected more from a Hilton property.

The kids were disappointed the pool was closed. Breakfast ran low on food about half the time, so we had to wait. The rooms were clean, but the beds felt like plywood and the pillows were much too soft.
