I’d look for another hotel in the area unless you only need a bed for the night. The pool was closed, with no notice on the website, and it seems from other reviews that it had been that way for months. Both treadmills were broken, the room was dirty, and breakfast was awful. The orange juice tasted like pool water, and the flavorless “eggs” had the texture of crumbled cornbread. The only people I saw running the hotel were a couple who were there when I checked in midafternoon and again the next morning. I’m a platinum elite member and wasn’t acknowledged, though that was minor compared with the other problems. Choice Hotels apologized quickly and tried to make things right after I contacted them, which I appreciated. Later, I asked when the pool might reopen and was told, “The summertime.” That sounded like it would stay closed for several more weeks or months. More than a week after my review and feedback, the website still hadn’t been updated to warn potential guests. The owners don’t seem interested in fixing known issues or improving things. Advertising a pool that’s been closed for weeks without saying so is not okay.

If you need a pet-friendly place in Dubuque, this one worked well for us. The staff were friendly and very accommodating, and our room was clean and comfortable. We slept too late to catch breakfast. It’s a former Comfort Inn.

My room felt safe and was fairly quiet. The bed linens and pillows were nice, and the shower had good temperature, pressure, and a good showerhead. Coffee was good too, with a few breakfast choices. For what this place is, I have no complaints.

The pool was closed, and there was paint smell everywhere. It sounds like the remodeling has been going on for months and is still underway. I doubt I’ll stay here again. If we’re back in the area, we’ll probably pay a bit more for another hotel. Finding the place was difficult. The only sign was a banner over the entrance, apparently because the new signage hasn’t been put up yet. The front desk clerk was unfriendly, didn’t greet me as a Diamond member, and didn’t acknowledge the reservation request for a ground floor room. I’d asked for one because a disability makes walking difficult, but we were put on the third floor. The room was small but clean, and the bed was comfortable. The sheets didn’t fit properly and kept coming off the corners. There was nowhere to hang clothes except a little hook on the back of the bathroom door. The shower pressure and showerhead were good, but the tub was slippery and needed a mat. The shower’s body wash dispenser was empty. The TV was small and fuzzy, and there were few USB ports, apart from two on the clock. Breakfast included eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal, and toast. Fruit flies were all over the area and ruined my appetite. There’s an Olive Garden across the parking lot for lunch or dinner.

The sheets were clean, the AC worked, and the room had a mini fridge and microwave. Still, I wouldn’t have minded the construction if I’d known about it when booking. As of October 14-18, the website didn’t mention the major renovation or that several amenities were unavailable. The hotel misleads guests by advertising amenities without notifying them about the work. The pool was closed, and the workout room was filled with construction equipment. Two storage containers and a dumpster sat in the lot. There was no hotel sign visible from the road, just a red banner above the entrance with the name spelled wrong. Workers were still going at 9 pm and set off the fire alarms with drywall dust. The plumbing barely worked. Water collected in the shower, then debris from the drain came back up into it. The tub took 30-40 minutes to drain, and the sink drained slowly too. My mom had the same problems in her room. Breakfast was minimal. I had to ask for coffee cups, and the juice machine put out milky-looking water, so it wasn’t working. With the plumbing trouble and skimpy breakfast, I’d rather pay less for a Motel 8 or a lot more for a nicer hotel.
