Quality Inn

The king bed and plenty of pillows made for a comfortable night's sleep, which is why I'd rate this place a little above the general consensus, around 3.7 stars. The room is small, with limited seating, a desk and a rather small TV, though there are enough channels. The bathroom is roomy for a two-star hotel and came with little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. It's on a busy road, but easy to get to. The indoor pool was clean and refreshing, just too small for actual swimming. Breakfast was a letdown: cramped area, few choices, and poor quality food, so you may want to skip it. At check-in, the employee was hard to find and seemed to disappear for long stretches, only turning up when called. The morning employee was juggling several jobs, but deserves credit for keeping breakfast stocked and making checkout quick and easy.

Steve at the front desk went out of his way to look after me and make sure I had the information I needed. I could see he kept himself busy and stayed ahead of whatever needed doing. The hotel itself was clean and well cared for, with a spacious, comfortable room. If I had a business in Dubuque, I'd try to hire him away from Quality Inn.

We'd been visiting Dubuque often and struggling to find a reasonably priced place that was clean, in a good location, and not worn out. We're glad we found this Quality Inn on Hwy 20, and we'll be happy to book it next time instead of spending hours searching. The location is convenient and the price is great. Our spacious 2 queen suite was comfortable, with good beds and pillows. Everything we saw was very clean, from the lobby and breakfast room to the halls and stairway. The employees were friendly and attentive, and breakfast was simple but had a good selection.

We arrived for our November 23rd reservation after a long day, hoping to bathe and go to bed. We weren't bringing pets, but the lobby was strongly perfumed and our “king suite” smelled heavily of pet urine and dirty dog. In the bathroom I was killing gnats or something like that, and the water wouldn't even get lukewarm for a bath. That was the last straw. My husband told the employee about the problems, and we were offered another room or a refund. We chose the refund, but were told the manager would have to give it the next day. After multiple calls and voicemails, we still haven't received it. Skip this dive. Other nearby hotels cost about the same and are much nicer. We went to Hotel Julian for only about $40 more, and the upgrade was well worth it.
