We had an extremely frustrating and unfair stay. At about 7:00 AM, we were suddenly told we'd be checked out at 11:00 AM, with no prior warning or discussion. A staff member named Cody accused our group of making messes we hadn't made. First he said we'd thrown towels around the pool, but when it became clear we hadn't even been to the pool, the claim changed to creamer thrown down a stairwell. They showed photos of creamer in the stairwell as “proof,” but nobody from our group appeared in them and nothing connected us to what happened. The manager accepted Cody's account without properly investigating or giving us a fair chance to explain. We were respectful and cleaned up after ourselves. Being accused on the basis of a story that kept changing and unsupported photos, then effectively being kicked out without notice, ruined our plans and caused unnecessary stress. We were also put on the third floor despite the broken elevator. The parking lot was nearly empty and lower-floor rooms were clearly available, which made that especially frustrating. The way the incident was handled felt targeted and discriminatory. Based on our experience, I would strongly caution families with children and people of color against staying here. We didn't feel treated equally or fairly, and the staff and management showed an unacceptable lack of professionalism and accountability. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. I attached what they called “proof” for kicking us out. If this is how the hotel operates, the whole staff needs to be fired. I can't understand how a competent manager could accept a fully fabricated story from a grown man-child like Cody without hard proof.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and comfortable, the beds were very comfy, and the building was clean and quiet. Customer service was remarkable too. Breakfast was simple but good.

Main Stay Suites was a pleasant place to stay in Durango, with friendly, top-notch staff, clean spacious rooms, and a wonderful breakfast. It was affordable too. The location is a few minutes from downtown, with several restaurants, a meat market, a coffee shop, and Walmart nearby. If you're keeping to a budget but still want nice accommodations for a reasonable price, this is the place. I paid a fraction of what most Durango places charge for similar accommodations, and used the savings for shopping and other fun instead of inflated hotel prices. Since finding this gem, I won't pay the higher rates downtown or closer to it again. Thanks for making my trip pleasant with a reasonably priced place to stay!

My daughter was in town for her father's funeral and needed some time and space alone to process. She booked online, but at check-in she was told she couldn't stay because her address was local, though it was an old address. That seems ridiculous. She didn't look like a hooker, like she was strung out on drugs, or like she was there to make drugs. When did this town and its attitude stop accommodating locals? What if my husband and I had drinks while out, or it got too late to drive 45 minutes home, and we wanted to stay safely at your hotel? Would you turn us away for being local too? This is outrageous. Do better!

The elevators weren't working, and at check-in we were told repairs would take three weeks. I'm not sure what century we're living in, the 21st? They never emailed or called to let us know the elevators were out. We had lots of luggage and asked for a first-floor room, but the front desk wouldn't give us one, even though the hotel was empty. We stayed two days, the parking lot was almost empty, and there weren't many people at breakfast, yet they put us on the third floor. The staff weren't friendly at all, and the coffee maker in our room didn't work.
