The General Palmer Hotel

The General Palmer Hotel is beautiful, and the staff were more than accommodating. It’s right beside the Durango & Silverton Train, so if you're riding it, you can leave your car at the hotel and walk over instead of paying for train parking. The hotel is in the heart of everything. There's a tea and coffee bar available day and night, and plenty of spots in the lobby to read or write letters.

The room was reasonably priced, with no hidden “history” fees like at the Stater Hotel, where I stayed one night and which paled in comparison. The staff's hospitality was exceptional, and I had an amazing stay. I'll definitely be back. It's my new favorite hotel.

Chandler took great care of us from the moment we arrived, going beyond expectations and offering lots of useful recommendations. Caleb, Oxana, and several other staff members whose names I didn't catch also deserve a mention. The breakfast buffet surpassed what we expected. It's a classy, historic, luxurious hotel, right beside the train station and an easy walk from restaurants and nightlife. We’ll definitely stay here again.

The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, ready to assist with anything we needed in town. The rooms were clean, updated, and good quality, and I liked having a coffee and tea station on every floor. The Palmer Hotel is a one-of-a-kind place at the beginning of Main St. in downtown Durango. It’s a restored old building, and they did a great job refreshing and modernizing it, from the wood and carpet to the antique elevator.
