The hotel is surrounded by shopping and restaurants, and I'd happily stay at the Holiday Inn Express again if I needed to go to Brownwood. I was there for a three-day conference at the old train depot, which was really nice. Through the conference room's big windows, I could see the train pass slowly several times a day. Back at the hotel, my room was surprisingly comfortable, clean, and had the usual amenities, plus a big bathroom, air conditioner that blew cold air, and a pod coffee maker. As an avid coffee drinker, I'm always surprised when hotels haven't switched to pods. The front desk staff were pleasant and helpful. I needed to print a large document, and it went smoothly with free paper. The girl at the desk even added more paper before I asked or ran out mid-print.

Check-in and check-out went smoothly, and I had no complaints about the staff. The room itself was gross to stay in. There was a pile of old dead crickets by a chair with a strange-looking stain that didn't seem cleaned. I sanitized the touch points myself, including the doorknobs and counters. It felt like they only gave the room a superficial tidy, not a proper cleaning. I've stayed in cleaner motels, and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't change the sheets between guests. I can't wait to go home and shower.

Our tournament was canceled after the storms, so we asked whether we could move the dates on our reservation. They said they don't change reservation dates. Management doesn't seem to care about keeping customers. I definitely won't stay here again or recommend it.

After 12 hours on the road on a Friday, my family and I just wanted a shower and bed, but the room had no hot water. I spoke with the front desk, who contacted the hotel manager, and was told nothing could be done that night. They said the manager would contact me after the weekend and comp the room. The manager never called, and the room was never comped.

We were crossing the state and found this a good deal along the way. It was a great place to stop for the night, and would be fine for a longer stay too. Some Holiday Inn Express locations are rougher, others nicer, but this one was clean and well cared for.
