Holiday Inn Hartford Downtown Area

We were in town for a funeral and came back from a candlelight vigil hoping to get food. It was 9 pm, an hour before the posted 10 pm closing time, but a woman at the bar told us the kitchen and dining room had already closed because no one was there. We didn’t have a car, and there wasn’t anything nearby, so we would have needed an Uber. Travelers may get back late, and the dining room should have been open until the advertised time. During our three-night, four-day stay, the beds weren’t made when we returned on the third day, even though nothing was left on them. Most hotels change the sheets when making beds for guests staying more than two days. The bathroom had been cleaned, but housekeeping left hand and bath towels only, with no face towels. I told the staff, who gave me the manager’s phone number and email. I emailed, but still haven’t had a response. Our room looked out at the rooftop, which wasn’t a nice view. The bathroom tiles looked as if there was water on the floor when there wasn’t, and the sink was low. For reference, I’m 5ft 6in. I’m very disappointed with this stay.

The women at the front desk were wonderful, helpful, and knew their stuff. And the location is great for getting to Xfinity Theater. The place itself is really dated, though, and needs work. We stopped using the pool because the pool room roof was deteriorating and falling into the water, and the pool floor was broken up. The gym was below par and didn’t lock. We also found a random sock in our room, so it could use a deeper clean. The beds were 100% hard as a rock 😞 Still, it worked as a place to crash for a couple of hours after a show before driving home, as long as you like a stiff sleep.

Being able to walk just over a half mile to the Convention Center in Hartford was perfect for us. We saved a lot by skipping rides, and parking was a flat rate for the whole stay. The on-site bar and restaurant were handy too, and we enjoyed picking up a nice bottle of wine without leaving the property. Our room was clean and well maintained, with a coffee maker and mini fridge. The shower had great pressure and got as hot as we wanted right away. Housekeeping respected our space and brought extra blankets and towels whenever we asked. We had fun at the pool. Its deep end was only 5 feet, which makes it good for little ones, though it was all adults when we went in the evening. It was a perfect spot for our vacation. I enjoyed our stay a lot and would definitely come back.

Getting a beer can be a challenge, and the restaurant is less than basic. Breakfast doesn’t open until 7:00. I hadn’t been here in years, and it hasn’t improved. The rooms are basic but clean, and the temperature in the room is low. There’s nothing around the hotel except highways, which makes getting in and out easy but going out in the evening difficult.
