The old-fashioned charm is a big part of what makes the East Norwich Inn appealing. It’s quiet, feels safe, and there’s a good restaurant next door plus a nearby pizzeria, so I didn’t mind that breakfast wasn’t available. The front desk, though, can be a real mixed bag. Two of the women there were warm, professional, and clearly cared about their work. Rob was the opposite: rude, dismissive, and unhelpful, like he didn’t want to do his job. The older man on the night shift is often asleep at the desk, which felt unprofessional and concerning for guest safety. I’d still recommend the place for its peaceful atmosphere and character, but management needs to deal with the inconsistency and the conduct of some staff. It makes a noticeable difference to the stay.
The receptionists were really nice and helped us out. There was little noise, and the hallways smelled great, though workers were in them in the morning. The rooms need a better clean and an update. Retro decor is everywhere. The hotel feels stuck in the past, but it was okay.
We ended up driving home at 2 o’clock in the morning because neither the room nor the hotel was acceptable. We’d checked in on New Year’s Eve to avoid driving home that night, but our room had a very strong mildew smell. The woman at the desk offered another room, and that one smelled just as bad. When we asked to cancel, we were told we couldn’t because we’d booked through a third party. We followed up through those channels, explained the problem, and our refund claim was denied. At check-in, the girl told us we weren’t in a high-end hotel, just an inn. That’s no excuse for a landmark that’s been there as long as I can remember. I’d give it zero stars if I could. I would never book here again, and I strongly urge others to think twice.
I’ve stayed at this hotel for over 15 years when visiting LI, including one night in section 5 just three weeks before this stay, and saw no bugs then. This time I checked in on 11 21 25 for one night in the first-floor section 2 area. The room looked clean at first, but I found food crumbs under one of the guests’ beds, where it hadn’t been vacuumed properly. On the morning of 11 22 25, I switched on the light and saw a live cockroach on the night stand beside the lamp, between the two guests’ beds. I told the front desk, and they said they would address it promptly. I was very disappointed and concerned. I shook out my bags and clothes right away, plan to wash everything in hot water and clean the bags, and haven’t even brought them into my house yet because I’m worried. This used to feel like a higher-end, Eco friendly hotel, but now I’m questioning that and don’t feel comfortable coming back. Things seem to have gone downhill, and the hotel seems to be catering to a different target demographic than before, which affected my stay. I’m also afraid of bed bugs now. A former ENI worker once told me ENI had bed bugs in the past, but said they had been taken care of. In my opinion, roaches mean there’s a high risk of bed bugs again, if they aren’t already there. It’s a shame, because it really is a nice Inn, and this can happen anywhere. I hope ENI gets back to being Eco friendly. Beware and take care!
The rooms smelled musty and were very dirty. There was cigarette ash on the table, and the sheets had stains and rips. My eyes were burning, maybe from smoke or dust. They offered to move me, but the other room was just as bad. It all felt very run down, and the rooms need a much better clean. There were also holes in the curtains from someone smoking. The place looked very nice up front.
