Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Atlanta Airport-North by IHG

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and we had a good trip in Atlanta, but the hotel was the one downside. I booked a room with two queen beds, yet we got two full beds, and there was no microwave. The bathroom had no ventilation, so after showering we had to leave the door open to let the heat out. There were water stains on the ceiling, the TV kept losing signal even on local channels, and there weren’t enough towels. When we asked for more, we were told there were no clean ones, so we bought our own. The carpet was stained and discolored, and we kept our shoes on the whole time. I also wasn’t told about the $50 daily deposit, which is returned at checkout, or the $20 per day parking charge. Neither was mentioned when I booked online or confirmed the reservation.

We paid $350 for one night, with breakfast and parking charged separately, and won’t be back. The queen beds in our booking were full size and rock hard. The pullout couch had no sheets, blanket, or pillows in the room, and room service said we’d have to go downstairs to reception to get them. The lobby looked nice, but the halls smelled of mold and urine or sewage, and the elevators barely seemed safe to use. When we returned at 9:30 the next morning, before the 11am checkout, our luggage was still there but our electronic devices were missing. The front desk said they thought we had already left. We reported that the devices had been taken or stolen, but our bags were plainly still in the room. I’ll avoid this hotel.

The service was great. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the lobby had a nice feel where I could work comfortably. The hotel is old, though, and that made it seem less clean: there was an odd smell, shabby looking carpet I didn’t want to walk barefoot on, and slow, rickety elevators. That doesn’t mean the carpet wasn’t clean, and the bedsheets were clean and nice, which mattered most to me. The place could use an update.

We had a comfortable one-night stay in a very clean room, more suite-like than a typical hotel room, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel is close to Hartsfield International airport, with an on-site restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner for an extra charge. Check-in was easy. The parking offer is handy if you have an early flight: one night’s stay gets you 8 days of parking for one low price. The shuttle runs every 15 to 20 minutes and drops you right in front of the terminal. Getting back after the trip was easy too.
