Torch Bay Inn

A clean, friendly little inn right on M31, about 20 minutes outside Charlevoix. It worked well for a weekend away, whether you want to take it easy or just need somewhere to sleep after a full day of sightseeing.

The shared coffee area has a clean, charming retro style, and it was easy to chat with people there or find a quiet corner. At night, the gas fire provided for guests was a nice way to hang out and make s’mores without the bother or risk of starting a campfire. Across the street, the inn has karaoke and a menu that was surprisingly good, and the staff were friendly and clearly wanted us to enjoy our stay. You can walk to a nice Lake Michigan state park beach, and the setting feels like a classic family vacation from a movie. There’s a grocery store down the road, and Torch Lake is great for windsurfing. Go expecting a great American roadside inn for a vacation and you’ll have a fantastic time. I’d stay again!

We had a great time relaxing around the smokeless fire pit. The room and bedding were very nice, and the air conditioning worked great. It’s a wonderful motel near the Torch Lake park and a mile from Lake Michigan. The staff were friendly, with coffee and snacks available and donuts on the weekend. Our room didn’t have a mini fridge, but affordable ice is available from the vending machine out back. Thanks!

We stopped here on the way from Mackinac Island back to Traverse City. The rooms were clean, the bed was comfortable, and service came with a smile. We just walked across the street for breakfast before getting back on the road.
