Golden Tree Hostel

There’s a lot to enjoy here, from the fully stocked kitchen and outdoor cooking area to the hot tub, sauna, game room, and fire pit. The staff are attentive, while still giving guests a level of freedom that feels unmatched anywhere on the island. The place is clean and clearly well cared for. Its eclectic look feels beautifully put together, and you can tell a lot of attention went into the details.

The owner was on the other side of the island and still answered my call, checked us in by phone, and talked us through the directions. When we arrived, she made us feel welcome at her charming hostel. We loved both our room and the property, and I’m grateful for her hospitality. Such an adorable place.

We stayed here for a friend’s wedding last weekend and had a great time. Every night we’d meet interesting people around the fire pit, and the place became part of the Orcas Island experience for my friend and me. I’d recommend it, especially to people who travel often.

There are lots of good books around, and it’s a really cute place. We rode our bikes from the ferry, which was manageable, though the traffic felt like too much and the road shoulder wasn’t wide enough. Next time I think we’ll drive. We still had a great time and would gladly return.
