Super 8 by Wyndham Eau Claire I-94

I’d had good luck with other Super 8s, so I felt fine booking four nights here. I requested a 1 pm early check-in through the website for $20, but it was still pending when I arrived at 1. The lobby smelled bad. The clerk first quoted $30, and when I showed him the site listing $20, he called his manager. Then he said it was $20 per night, or $80. I said that obviously wasn’t how it worked and refused. I asked to cancel, but he wouldn’t and told me to come back at 3. I left before I lost my temper. I cancelled by calling the automated line, but still got charged a cancellation fee. Super 8 corporate gave me another number for refunds, which I planned to call that night. Don’t give these people your credit card info. This place needs to be shut down.

The room was barely clean. There was someone else's toothpaste splattered on the bathroom mirror, and the sink was so gross it needed scrubbing. The breakfast area smelled strongly of ammonia, and the waffle iron looked like it had never been cleaned. The fridge freezer wasn’t attached properly because of ice buildup, and it seemed like it hadn’t been maintained or replaced. The microwave and coffee pot were dirty too. There were two major smudges on the room mirror, lots of dust, and signs it wasn’t cleaned regularly. The ironing board was broken, wouldn’t fold, and was just sitting in the way instead of being hung up. The place felt sketchy and most things were run down. It’s extremely overpriced for how dirty and rundown it is, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The breakfast area was filthy and hot, and the food looked bad. The yogurt looked awful when I opened the fridge, the milk for cereal was half gone and seemed sour, and oranges beside the refrigerator were so warm they felt soft. The shower was unusable too: the tub wouldn't drain, so I was standing in dirty water and had to get out. It took all night to drain, which meant nobody else could bathe, and there weren't enough towels for three people anyway. We arrived late and everything was booked, so we had no real choice but to take this cheap deal. You get what you pay for. They claim the place is handicap accessible, but that's not true. My mother is 80 and we try to avoid stairs. The night clerk was rude. My sister and I got all the bags onto a dolly, then found out there was no elevator and our room was on the second floor. We had to get Mom and all the luggage up the stairs. When we finally got inside, it was hotter than hell. The wall AC was way up near the ceiling, out of reach unless you had a step ladder. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE

For what it costs, this was a really comfortable, pleasant stay. The staff were very friendly, and it's close to the interstate.
