The building is lovely, check-in was easy, and the room had those little touches that made it feel upscale. Best of all, it was incredibly quiet. I slept well in a very comfortable bed and loved the shower. I'd recommend it if you need a restful night away.

I’d come back and would happily recommend it to friends. The rooms are huge, clean, and have plenty of storage, along with all the basics and some nice cookies and brownies. Southdale mall is an easy walk away, and the rates are fairly low. I learned it used to be an assisted living facility, which helps explain the room size. Staff with cognitive disabilities, including autism, provide services with neurotypical support; some of them live here. Check-in and checkout are mostly automated.

There was water leaking into the front room to the right of the entrance. The ceiling was bulging, the air smelled strongly of stale water and humidity, and it was seeping into the walls and ceiling. They hadn't repaired it, just put down a five-gallon bucket. There was no staff on site to help, and a woman ignored my daughter's repeated calls. When I reported that the toilet was leaking, the response was that maybe a handyman would come later or the next day. The rooms were bare, with no color or art, and felt like an insane asylum. We found blood spots on the carpet and chocolate and food under the couch cushions. The rooms smelled musty and like old cigarettes. Don't trust the online reviews. This place is deceptive, and I would never recommend it.

I’ll definitely book here again when I’m in the area. The historic building has lots of lovely details, including art and pieces of its history. My room was roomy, clean, and comfortable, and it was probably the quietest hotel I’ve stayed in. Hot water was never an issue, whether I showered in the morning or evening. A really lovely stay.

We were looking for an affordable place in Edina that felt nice and was close to both the city and airport, since the Airbnb options weren’t quite right. Seeing Erik's Retreat listed as a superhost led us to check out its website, and I’m glad we did. Our Executive Queen was spacious, the staff were kind and easy to communicate with, and the property was peaceful and beautiful. The included breakfast was a nice extra, and we were happy to support its mission. We felt at home and plan to stay at Erik's on future Twin Cities visits. Thanks for a great three nights!
