Sheraton Edison

The restaurant in the hotel has pretty decent food, and it’s convenient not having to go out. There’s also a Starbucks inside, though it closes at 3:30. The gym is usable, but some equipment needs attention and a few things are missing. I’ve stayed here many times and had a few decent rooms, but we won’t be back. The rooms look nice, though they vary a lot: some beds are comfortable enough, others aren’t. There’s a mini fridge in each room, but they don’t work and are tiny, maybe enough for two water bottles. No microwaves, which is a pain for longer stays. Bathrooms are often dirty, sheets have stains or hairs, towels are limited, and asking the front desk for anything gets you attitude. Ask questions or complain and you might get a lousy room by the elevator. The last two times, the front desk treatment appalled us, even with the manager sitting right there. We’re reward members and my family works for Marriott. On our last check-in, five minutes before check-in time, the clerk told my husband to sit down while she found us a room. Then a line formed, and she didn’t help the people in it first because she had a form of his to process. I’m still shocked by her tone and manner. The same awful check-in happened two weeks in a row. Marriott is doing itself a disservice by adding these Sheraton’s. We had a similar experience at the Sheraton in Long Island and walked out to stay elsewhere. I’ve never been treated so badly at a hotel that isn’t cheap. Corporate Marriott was kind and offered an apology and points, but that won’t bring me back unless they get new front desk staff.

The rooms were clean, and I got work done on my computer while sitting comfortably on a sofa in the lobby. Free parking was a nice extra, and the prices seemed fair. Staff were welcoming and helpful throughout, from the front desk and housekeeping to the breakfast buffet waiters. I had a great time and would stay again.

The room was nicely set up, and service was prompt and good. I could hear several conversations from the next room because the walls are extremely thin. My non-smoking room smelled like smoke when I first walked in, and although the hotel listed an indoor pool, there was no notice that it was closed for winter.

The washrooms were spacious and very clean, and being close to the train station at Metuchen was handy. I guess getting around without a car isn’t really expected here, so that may just be my situation. I was there for a business event, so I only saw the conference room, the service around it, and the catering. The food was pretty good, with a decent variety. I’m sure the selection was curated, and maybe it just wasn’t to my personal taste. I held back one star because the stage and audio area could have been presented better. I don’t have a photo of the audio setup, which was to the left of the stage.
