Hampton Inn El Reno

My room was 1 hour and 40 minutes late, and I was left feeling that my time didn’t matter. I’d asked about checking in at 2 instead of 3 about two months ahead, but never got a reply. When we arrived an hour after the regular check-in time, the room still wasn’t ready and the desk agent said it might be another 30 minutes. She suggested we could use a bathroom to get ready for our event. People ahead of us, apparently honors members, got a nice snack bag. I didn’t need the snacks, but offering us one would’ve been a decent way to acknowledge the delay, especially for a $170 room. She took my number and said she’d call. Fifteen minutes later I went upstairs and found the room clean, though the cleaning person hadn’t let the desk know it was done. I stayed there while my husband fetched our things, then waited another 15 minutes before getting the call that we could go in. They’re happy to charge extra for late checkout, so staffing problems shouldn’t be pushed onto guests. I asked the receptionist to pass along to management that some gesture for the delay would’ve been nice. Even after I suggested the snack bag, she didn’t offer one. She seemed unsure about making a judgment call to help an unhappy customer. Hampton should do better at training staff to make things right and keep guests happy. Hotels cost a lot, and my time is valuable.
