The Historic Elk Mountain Hotel

Cozy rooms and welcoming staff, but the dining room is the real highlight. The menu is excellent, the food is gourmet quality, and the desserts are exceptional. There’s also a great bar with a good cocktail selection and wine menu. We got so excited about dinner that we forgot to take pictures 😁. Don’t miss stopping in for dinner or staying the night, it won’t disappoint.

The grounds were lovely for reading and relaxing, and a short walk up the road gave us great mountain views. We spent one lovely night at the Elk Mountain Hotel, a rare historic place that keeps its charm while offering modern amenities, including sturdy floors and bathrooms with big showers. Dinner and breakfast were excellent quality and well priced, especially the chokecherry meatballs. The WiFi is weak and there’s no AC, but on a July evening the room and cool mountain air were perfect.

Our Harvest Host booking, made a week ahead, let us stay on the property in our RV for one night. We called to confirm our late 7 pm arrival, and they were very accommodating when crosswinds in WY slowed our drive more than I’d allowed for. Dinner was five stars: the grilled caesar salad was out of this world, the bison burger and fries were tasty, and the apple pie bar with vanilla ice cream was delightful. Everyone we spoke to was friendly and helpful, and the servers were pleasant and attentive. The seating was comfortable and nostalgic, and the Elk Mountain Hotel has quite a bit of history. Definitely worth the trip. Thanks for all you do, we’d happily visit again.

The hotel has a special feel, and we enjoyed looking through its history and photos downstairs, then playing chess. My husband and I spent an anniversary night here in October, and it was superb. The food was absolutely excellent, and our server was kind, funny, and very knowledgeable. He also makes amazing cocktails. I would have enjoyed complimentary tea in the evening, just a small suggestion. I’m glad we found a night to stay at this Wyoming gem.
