Econo Lodge Elkhart North

I only needed a quick overnight, so the low price worked, but this wasn’t a great choice. The room was large, though cleanliness was average, the driveway and parking were very small, and the mattress needs replacing. The bathroom could use maintenance. I booked a mobility accessible room, but it had a regular tub rather than a wheelchair shower, with grab bars placed poorly. There were only three bed pillows, and the continental breakfast was almost nonexistent. I just needed a shower and a bed.

The parking was a poor fit for a regular-size pickup, and they charged $122 for one night because Notre Dame football played that day. The outside of the building and the walkways were disgusting. Inside, our room was dirty and smelled like a hoagie with extra onions, and the air conditioner didn’t cool it at all. I called ahead and booked because we were traveling across the country with our dog. When we arrived, the clerk said there was no reservation and was rude and indignant, as if it were my fault they hadn’t recorded it properly. Unluckily for us, a room was available anyway. If I’d known how rude the staff would be and what the room was like, we would’ve slept in the truck.

This hotel was filthy and disgusting, with nothing in the room, not even a garbage can. My wife was bitten by what looked like a red bug in the bed or pillow. It was lodged in the top of her head, and after we pulled it out she developed a rash on her face that needed medical attention. Four days later she still wasn’t getting better, so we had her checked again. This place shouldn’t even be in business.

Do not stay here. I was in town for work, and during my first week they overcharged me by more than $900, wiping out my bank account. The owner said she didn’t know what was wrong. I’d already paid for my second week, so I stayed the remaining days. It took over a week to resolve the issue. Then, the day after I checked out, they overcharged me another $1,300 and emptied my account again, leaving me stranded. The place is in poor condition, and I think the owners should be investigated.
