The back patio and fireplace were a great place to spend an afternoon, and the Christmas decorations everywhere helped make the hotel feel like home. I stayed at the Fairfield in Elkin for a month while working at the airport and had an amazing experience. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and quite large. I especially enjoyed having a bathtub in December when it got so cold. The staff were warm and welcoming, and Alex did a great job accommodating our team. Hopefully the fitness center and pool will open again soon!
We only needed a night while passing through town, and I’m so glad we picked this hotel. The shower was perfect after a long day of driving, and the room was perfectly fine. We didn’t use all the amenities, so I can’t speak to everything. It’s conveniently located off the highway, and the staff were some of the nicest around. We felt so welcome. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas, like walking into a Hallmark movie, and it made our stay that much more enjoyable.
After a fun but cold ski trip and a whole day on the road, we pulled off the highway for a quick sleep and somehow checked into the North Pole! We got the warmest welcome, hot chocolate, cookies, a cozy fireplace, and a sweet handwritten note in our room. Such a wonderful surprise, holiday magic achieved. 10/10, would stay again! ❤️☕️🎄
We’d stay here again for a quick overnight stop because it’s so close to the highway. Just watch for the entrance by the gas station, which is easy to miss. I missed it and ended up back on the highway. The room was clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet, and the staff were polite. Check-in and checkout were easy. The hotel is undergoing major renovations, so the lobby is a construction zone and there may be daytime noise. They take your car tag at check-in in case they need to move your car, which makes sense. Breakfast was a letdown, with dry eggs and burnt coffee. Talia’s, a great coffee shop, is down the street, and there are a few restaurants nearby.
We kept away from the front desk for the rest of that stay, and things were fine, but the strange, almost gleeful contempt in that man’s eyes was unsettling. I’ve enjoyed this hotel before, so I’m torn, but I really didn’t like dealing with him. I’ll probably take a break from this place and stay somewhere else next time. I rarely write reviews, and I’m easy to please. Give me a clean bed and I’m set. But I can’t tolerate bad customer service, and last week that’s what we got. I’ve stayed here dozens of times without complaints. It’s become a tradition for my father and me to stop on the way to Wilkesboro, order food to the lobby, and watch hockey downstairs. This visit, my nephew had arrived a little earlier in a separate car and was waiting outside. He said the man at the front desk wouldn’t let him use the bathroom because it was for guests only. When my nephew gave him our last name, the man said nobody under that name was staying there, which seemed like a blatant lie. The hotel was under construction when we arrived. When we booked, we’d been told the renovations would make it so great that the higher price was worth it, which turned out to be a lie. The man checked us in, gave my nephew a half-smirk, and said, “Welcome Back.” My dad asked if the TV downstairs could be turned on. The man just said, “No.” When my dad pressed him for even a little explanation, he stayed rude and unwelcoming. It turned into a small tiff at the front desk because my dad bristled at his attitude, but honestly, I can only fault the associate for how he acted. We stayed again a few days later on the way back from our destination. The same man wouldn’t help a woman ahead of us at check-in get a two-bedroom room so her elderly father could have his own bed. She was clearly upset and was only asking for help, but he flatly refused. She told him she’d worked for Marriott for years and understood what he could and couldn’t do, and he still kept declining to assist. It was awkward and infuriating to watch.
