The Sanctuary B&B

After a day at Acadia, this was a good-value place to come back to, and I slept really well all 3 nights. The manager on site was welcoming, and I enjoyed chatting with the 1 staff member I met. The building used to be a nursing home, so it takes a little getting used to, and the outside may not look very inviting. As someone else put it, it’s charming in its own way.

Barb, the owner and artist, is such a sweet woman, though she works too hard. The price is hard to beat, and the room was clean with a comfortable bed. Check-in and checkout were easy. Breakfast was heavy on carbs, but the coffee was great. The main downside is that Acadia is 20 miles away, which feels like a long drive after dark.

We just needed somewhere to sleep and shower, and the rooms worked perfectly for that. The atmosphere was delightful, with the owners’ paintings and the lovely woman who checked us in. I think her name was Courtney, though I can’t quite remember. The staff were amazing, and it’s close to Acadia without the Acadia prices. Great place, we’ll be back.

There are games, seating, dining space, and cooking appliances in the common area on each floor. The rooms were spacious, with large, comfortable, clean beds and newer bathroom and shower fixtures. It’s an older building, and the outside doesn’t tell you much, but inside feels quite different. I was told the owners’ wife painted the beautiful artwork throughout. The owner was very nice and great with people. Best price I’ve seen, and a good place to stay for whatever brings you here.
