Comfort Inn Columbia Lancaster

We were there for 10 minutes, and even that felt too long. At first glance the place didn’t look awful, but the smell hit us, like porti-potty blue liquid mixed with vinegar. The pool was filthy, with algae along the floor and walls. Upstairs the smell got worse, with stale cigarette smoke, and thick dirt covered the windows overlooking the pool. My 11 year old gasped when we entered the room and said, “this place is disgusting!” There were little dirt balls on the comforter by the AC unit, a hole in the wall where the smoke detector was missing, and black mold in at least two spots in the bathroom. The smell made my nose burn and itch. Outside, we saw rat traps every 5-10 feet around the building. The floors and health conditions made me wonder how this place is still open. When I went back in to say we couldn’t stay, they charged us the room rate and a no show fee. I’d give it 0 stars if I could. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The tub barely drained, the sink kept dripping, and the room they gave me hadn’t been properly cleaned. I found dirt around the windows and heater, napkins and ketchup packets left in a drawer, and grimy handprints on the windows and backboard. The whole hotel had an unclean smell. The towels were white once, but dingy and yellowed. We needed a last minute place for a Spooky Nook Tournament, and I’ve never been more disappointed. The floors felt filmy enough to leave prints on my shoes, and the carpets needed washing. I didn’t feel comfortable taking my shoes off. The couch was worn, with threads hanging off and rough, pilled fabric. There was also visible dirt on the windows and heater unit. When I showed the front desk, they offered either a refund or a room that felt a little cleaner. I’ll never stay at another Comfort inn. We were so glad to leave that “hotel.” It felt more like motel quality.

The air conditioning worked, and that’s about the only positive I can think of. The smell throughout the hotel was like the blue water in a Porta potty. The side door wouldn’t work, and the lobby bathrooms were out of order. In the room, the pillow had black stains, the comforter had red marks with hard residue, and the curtains had red and white stains. The carpet trim had come completely loose and was lying on the floor. There were water spots on the ceiling, white stains all over the couch, and cookie chunks around the bed and nightstand, though we hadn’t brought any food in. This place was absolutely disgusting. If you have health problems, you’d be better off sleeping in your car. I’d give it zero stars if I could. It should be reported and shut down until it’s fixed.

They let me stay around after checking out because I had an appointment with someone, which I appreciated. The service was better than I expected, and I found the inn a wonderful place to stay. I’d come back. Whether you need a short or long stay, it’s worth booking a room. Pets are allowed too.
