Hampton Inn White Plains/Tarrytown

I landed here at 1 AM after the hotel next door couldn’t find me a room that didn’t stink. The night clerk got me set up in a new room quickly, and the service was top notch. He also signed me up for the loyalty program and gave me water. The room was comfortable and clean, and having breakfast included in the morning was a nice bonus. For a reasonably priced stay in White Plains, I’d definitely recommend this Hampton Inn.

Breakfast was okay, and the hours, 6 to 10am, were handy if you don’t get up early. But supplies were running low. When I asked a worker for a tea bag because there weren’t any in sight, they said what was out was all they had and I’d have to wait for the next shipment. We wouldn’t still be there to use it. The room looked tidied up rather than properly cleaned. There was grit across the floor and bathroom, so it clearly hadn’t been vacuumed. The shower curtain looked dirty, and the toilet had a brown ring around the water and brown stains. On the second day, we noticed a large yellow stain on the comforter that had been covered by the textured sheet, which left us wondering whether the bedding gets washed properly. The pillows looked fluffy but sank right in and gave me neck trouble. There didn’t seem to be many guests, so you’d think the hotel could be better maintained. Our past Hampton stays had been pleasant, but this one wasn’t. Some of the low reviews are accurate, and I wouldn’t stay again.

Christina at the front desk brought some brightness to a very difficult and emotional stay at the Hampton. She greeted us with a warm smile and real kindness each time we came in, and went above and beyond whenever we needed something. She’s such a sweet person and deserves recognition for the positive difference she made during those hard days.

The lobby snack section was nearly empty the whole time, and the breakfast they advertise from 6-10 was put away around 8:30. The rooms are tiny, too, and the heater sounded like it might blow up. This place was awful. I don’t recommend it. Save yourself the hassle and go to the Marriott.
