Karen Franzone was kind enough to sort out a small hiccup during our stay, and we’d love to return when the weather is warmer. My husband and I booked the Smithton Gables Retreat at the Smithton Inn for our birthdays in February. It felt like home, with a spacious living area, a striking floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace in the bedroom, and a lovely ensuite bathroom. There was natural light throughout. The inn itself was quaint, and the wine bar was a lovely touch.

Breakfast was a real highlight, and Karen, the owner, made me feel welcome as soon as I checked in. I was at the Historic Smithton Inn on a business trip and couldn’t have asked for a better place. The Chocolate Room was comfortable, quiet, and beautifully cared for. Each room has its own fireplace, which adds a lot of charm. The whole inn is beautiful and full of history, and you can feel its character right when you arrive. I’d absolutely recommend it for a visit to Lancaster County, for work or leisure, and look forward to staying again.

Karen, the innkeeper, was wonderful, and breakfast was great. We booked the Sage Room for an anniversary trip. It’s downstairs beside the garden, and in the snowy middle of winter it felt especially private, secluded, and romantic. Ashley at the bar was amazing, too. I got to spend a quiet Friday evening with her while it was cold and snowing. The wine bar is nice, and you can get a flight of 5 wines for $10.

Karen was an AMAZING host from the minute we arrived. She made us feel welcome and looked after, and recommended Osteria Avanti, a local Italian restaurant where we had a fantastic dinner on our first night. Breakfast both mornings was phenomenal, made with fresh local ingredients. You could really taste the care and quality, and it gave us a taste of the area. For New Year’s, my wife and I wanted some quiet, intentional time together. The Historic Smithton Inn was just right. This was our first bed and breakfast, and we couldn’t have chosen better. The Loft was fantastic, with a comfortable bed, beautiful skylights, an electric fireplace, Roku TV, strong WiFi, and a great bathroom. It felt cozy and private while keeping the inn’s historic character. We loved the room and the rest of the inn had just as much charm. We stayed two nights over New Year’s Eve, and we’re already looking forward to coming back and seeing more of the place. Highly recommend for a relaxing, memorable getaway.

Karen made us feel right at home, and the inn is lovely. Our room had a romantic feel and all the comforts we wanted. It blends historic charm with modern amenities really well. Breakfast was delightful and delicious. We’ll definitely stay here again soon.
