Canoe On Inn

Shawna was extremely easy to work with, and I’ll stay here on future trips. Our group had the family suite the night before a fall Boundary Waters trip. It was clean and comfortable, and the price was great: a two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen cost less than we’ve paid for two hotel rooms in the past. It was a great experience.

We rented the family apartment for five adults before heading into the BWCA, and it worked great. There’s a large family room and kitchen, and the place is right in the heart of Ely.

The room was small and basic, with no frills, and I thought the price was about $45 too high. We could hear traffic clearly from the second floor. I booked through a third party for two queen beds, but the front desk gave us two doubles instead. They also put us upstairs, where my 94-year-old father had to climb icy outdoor steps. The staff member was very unaccommodating. I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again.

I didn’t expect much from this little motel after booking an Ely trip at the last minute, but it turned out great. The location is convenient, with everything in town within walking distance. The owner/manager was wonderful and loved the little dogs there too. The bed, bedding, and pillows were super comfortable, and I’m picky. The bathroom looked recently remodeled. It’s on a busy road, but we heard very little noise at night while sleeping. I’d gladly recommend it and go back.
