We were relieved to find Motel Ely was a pleasant surprise after other hotels had no rooms available. The rooms were tidy and very clean, with a neutral, fresh scent. It's affordable and has a 60s vintage feel. The water pressure could have been stronger, the springy bed wasn't as supportive as we like, and parking was tight. We still enjoyed our stay and plan to return.

The motel is old but well maintained, and the rooms were clean and had what we needed for a travel stop. Internet worked very well without any issues. The owner was super friendly and helpful, suggesting a few hikes that are good in winter and snow, along with places to eat.

We'd stay here again after a Boundary Waters trip. It's good value for the price, with decent rooms and beds, good service, and downtown within walking distance. You can hear some main street traffic, though that's true of every motel in town.

When our bunkhouse fell through late at night, this motel was the only place open and came through for us. The door had a note saying to call or text, and we had keys within five minutes. The service was amazing, polite, kind, and understanding. There was even a cute cat! Our room was really clean, and the sheets smelled like fresh laundry. Motel Ely will be our spot whenever we're in ely.
