Hyatt Place Emeryville/San Francisco Bay Area

The stay started well: check-in was easy, the hotel was clean and comfortable, and it was close to the shops and restaurants I like. Breakfast was good and the staff were nice. Then, around 11 p.m., a strange man in a COVID mask and wheelchair chased me to my room and stayed outside my door for a while. What worried me most was that there seemed to be no security, with only one front desk employee on site. I felt my safety was at risk. Thank goodness I had family nearby to pick me up and end my stay early, but I worry about guests who don't have that option. I received a full refund for the whole stay.

The rest of the hotel has been great, and the area has lots of shopping and dining options. But on my last three business stays this past year, the comforter has been badly worn. The insulation in each quilted square has bunched into a hard little ball, so it's unpleasant to cuddle up with and doesn't keep the heat in. I told the front desk during my last two visits, yet here I am again with a lumpy bed. Maybe a little Google attention will lead to a change.

We had a lovely bay view, and the reception team were extremely kind and helpful. The kids also loved Emery robot, which was a big plus. A couple of things lowered my score. There wasn't enough seating at breakfast, so it felt chaotic. At dinner they served plastic cups and cutlery, and when I asked for regular ones, they refused. That's a shame and not very environmentally friendly.

The room was spacious and clean, and I really enjoyed my one-night business stay. The staff got me checked in early while I was heading into the city from Sacramento, which I appreciated. There are lots of interesting shops and places to eat within walking distance, and breakfast was on point. There's also a small bar and bistro for appetizers, dinner, or cocktails. I'll definitely come back.
