Best Western Emporia

We come through Emporia, VA every year on our winter drive to Florida, and this was our first stay at the Best Western there. The exterior and common areas were pleasant enough, but the rooms need a lot of work. Ours had a roughly patched hole in the carpet, a dirty toilet, and a ceiling crack from a water leak. It really needed a full makeover. The included breakfast also fell short in both quality and selection.

The staff were helpful and friendly, and the room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. It suited us perfectly for an overnight stop while traveling. I’ll stay again on future trips.

The sheets were damp and marked with yellow and black stains that looked like earwax and mascara. I layered up and slept on top of them. In the morning, when I started changing, I found black bits that looked like bug shells all over my skin, even in my bra. Bugs and spiders were crawling on the curtains, with webs and dead roaches around the room. Every non-smoking room smelled of smoke. My boyfriend and I stopped here on our road trip after ten hours of driving, and this was the most disgusting hotel stay I’ve ever had. It felt much more like a motel. I’d give it zero stars if I could. How is it still operating? Horrible. Avoid it at all costs. I wish I’d slept in my car instead.

Pets are allowed, which made this a handy stop on a long road trip, and we had no problems with the room or facilities. The breakfast had a nice selection and tasted good. The woman working in the breakfast area was pleasant. Both front desk employees were kind and welcoming, from the late evening check-in on July 4th through checkout the next morning.
