Comfort Inn Emporia

We stopped here on the way to Christmas vacation and had a horrible stay. The fridge still had drinks in it and hadn't been cleaned. After a couple of flushes, the toilet clogged, and the water rose right to the rim. This happened early in the morning. I was told there were no other rooms, despite seeing people checking out all morning, and that no one could help until 3 in the afternoon. They handed me a plunger and expected me to handle it myself. Walking through the lobby and onto the elevator with that disgusting plunger, someone mistook me for housekeeping and asked if I could help them. I had to explain that I was carrying it because nobody at the hotel could fix my toilet. I worried the toilet would overflow. They said I wouldn't be responsible if it did, but I didn't trust that reassurance. I'm not a plumber. I asked to move to a room with a working toilet and was told the hotel was booked, even though I kept seeing people leave. In the end, I had to use the gas station next door. Is that what I paid $100 a night for? The clerk didn't even offer to let me use whatever bathroom the staff use. If I'd known I'd need to go to a gas station, I'd have picked a different hotel. There were plenty nearby. Don't expect much here, especially if something breaks and you need maintenance. I was still waiting for someone from the hotel to contact me about this, but they have my money, so they obviously don't care. I was demanding a full refund through corporate and couldn't tell how that would go. At this point, a full refund is the only thing that would make me happy. I've never stayed at a worse hotel in my 63 years. I'm so disappointed, especially because it was my first stay and I'd just signed up for Choice hotel rewards. I won't go back to one of these hotels. I plan to tell as many people as possible, online and in person, about being handed a plunger instead of getting help.
