Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott - Emporia

The woman who checked us in was kind, informative, and great at the front desk. The room, though, was dirty and gross. I'm not sure the bathroom had ever been cleaned, and the bathroom door was disgusting. I was really disappointed in this hotel.

The front desk gentleman was excellent and gave me good restaurant suggestions. There are fast food options within walking distance and some pretty good restaurants a couple of minutes away by car. I stopped on a business trip because it was close to the highway and advertised a pool and indoor hot tub, but neither was working, even though it was February and in the 20s outside. The room looked fairly renovated, and both it and the hotel were clean. Still, the wear and tear was obvious, from the shower to the worn furniture.

The staff were trying their best, and that's the only reason I gave this place two stars. I saw bugs in the room and there was noise all night, with loud voices and sounds from the bathroom. I'm a light sleeper, but this was beyond what anyone should expect. Breakfast was fair at best. Marriott should put serious money into the property, or if it's a franchise, get the owner to upgrade it. For about the same price, I've found Towne Place Suites gives a much better stay.

The rooms were fine overall, and the front desk team was pleasant. But the website says the pool and hot tub are open, and neither was. We chose the hotel for those amenities and asked for some kind of refund the next day. They said they couldn't because of the management company, then offered loyalty points instead. At exactly 9 a.m. on Saturday, housekeeping pushed our door open without knocking. She apologized and admitted she hadn't knocked. The walls are very thin, and you can hear everything. They said they'd connect me with management about a possible discount. I'll update this if that happens.
