Old Town Littleton is worth visiting, though the hotel is in a fairly new industrial area that feels a bit out of the way. The room was roomy but sparsely furnished, and the bathroom reminded me of Best Western hotels from a generation ago or earlier. I brought my West Highland Terrier, and after spending last summer traveling with my dog through the Midwest, Northeast, and South, I’ve heard every explanation for pet fees. The clerk was honest that pets can cause damage, but I feel there’s a bigger reason: hotel chains charge unreasonable amounts because they can, sometimes 25 to 50 percent of the stay. It’s gone too far for me, and Marriott and Hilton have also pushed their prices too high. I’ll be staying in hotels until next week, but after that I’ve decided to use Airbnb and VRBO in the future, since their way of doing business costs less. I like old Littleton and will try to stay in an Airbnb next time.

We had a very nice two-bedroom suite, though it had only one bathroom. The pool stayed closed both days we were there, with a sign saying it needed chemicals. Pools can be shocked and ready in a day. Continental breakfast wasn’t great, and the coffee bar had only cream and sugar. That was fine for me, but my wife was unhappy there was no flavored creamer. We’ve stayed at plenty of worse hotels that at least had flavored creamer.

The room was spacious, and the layout was fine, almost like it may once have been an apartment, though the view wasn’t anything special. The cleanliness was a shock: stains in the bathroom and hair all over the bed, floor, couch, and even kitchen area. We arrived around 5 a.m., and the front desk clerk barely acknowledged us, handing over a pen without greeting or smiling. When we asked basic questions, they turned and walked away. Another staff member came over, but wasn’t any more helpful. The location is peaceful and away from city noise, but parking is limited, so returning late can make finding a space difficult. I’d only suggest staying one night if you don’t need service or housekeeping. Bring your own cleaning supplies, and be cautious if traveling with kids. No one should have to put up with that service or a room in that condition.

The oatmeal bar at breakfast was fantastic, with so many great toppings, and all the hotel staff were friendly. The town is peaceful, with a great mix of places to shop and eat, and the location is excellent. Red Rocks Amphitheater is close, making the trip quick and safe. The room cleanliness was the one downside: there was a stain on the white comforter that looked like blood, spots on the walls that clearly hadn’t been wiped, crusty food on the kitchen utensils, and dirty dishes left in the dishwasher from previous hotel stays. Gross. I’d still come back!

The location is fabulous, close to Deer Creek Park, Red Rocks, and Morrison, and just a short drive from downtown Denver. You can also take the train from nearby Mineral Station. The full kitchens save on food since you don’t have to eat out as much, and they provide a good breakfast. Colin at the front desk was awesome, and Christina from corporate helped a lot with an issue I had. It’s a nice, clean place in the Littleton area and a great value. Corporate is cutting back on amenities, and I expect more cuts. The grounds and landscaping could use work, though the drought hasn’t helped.
