The Ponderosa Motel

We always enjoy staying at the Ponderosa hotel in Enterprise OR. It's simple, but comfortable and clean, and the managers go out of their way to make it a good experience. My husband requested a ground-floor room, which is easier on our not-so-young bodies, and we got one. The lady manager had crocheted some wonderful stuffed animals. They made the reception and check-in area cheerful, and I bought one as a gift. Here's our fat cat Lily with her crocheted fat cat friend.

The managers got us a room right away, and I stayed for three days, checking out this morning. The rooms were clean, the staff pleasant, there's plenty of parking, and the continental breakfast was available each morning. I'd definitely recommend staying here. At Wilderness Inn, though, whoever manages it needs to step up or at least answer the phone. I was told it's the same owner, and I wanted to rent a room there for a month. I called several times and left a couple of messages with my information, but the property manager never called me back.

The place was clean and quiet, with friendly staff, a good location, and funky rough-hewn furniture. My only issues were the noisy AC and the lack of a desk or table chair. There was just one comfy stuffed chair. The staff kindly lent me a really good office chair, which made it easier to write this review on my laptop.

We stopped for one night on our way to hike outside Wallowa Lake. There was plenty of parking, and the room was neat and tidy, just what we needed for a short stay. The staff greeted us with lots of food recommendations since most places close late during the week. Thanks to the Ponderosa staff. I'd highly recommend taking a walking loop around downtown to see the older historic buildings still in use.
