What upset me most was how much Quality Inn Hotel in Escondido has changed. The breakfast used to be a delicious meal served by a very polite woman, with scrambled eggs and sausage or bacon, plus waffles. Now the only choice is to make your own waffles, around what looked like homeless individuals. It feels like the hotel has basically become a subsidized shelter. I even found a cockroach in the bathroom once. That hadn't happened on earlier visits, though I think it might be connected to the new way breakfast is delivered to rooms. My husband and I have stayed here more than twice before, and those visits were outstanding, with great service, top-notch rooms, and a good free breakfast. This time we were put in room 330, where I heard what I believe was dripping inside the wall all night and couldn't sleep. The noise was still there in the morning. When I reported it, we were told to pack everything into the car and wait for another room to open after 11am. At checkout around 10 am on Monday, the supervisory manager was nowhere to be found. The whole stay was deeply disappointing.

Parking was a bit confusing because of the construction onsite, but Ralph, Tess, and Neil made the stay easy and enjoyable with their incredible service. I was impressed by how well kept the rooms were, and the location is hard to beat, with lots of places to eat within walking distance. I stayed with my cousin and would highly recommend it.

I had one room booked for the night after arriving a day early, then another for a week. Both had a strong, funky tropical air freshener smell as soon as I walked in. Maybe it's meant to cover stale cigarette odors. The rooms were clean otherwise, check-in was easy, and the area seemed secure enough. It's an older motel, not four-star, so I could live with the smell. For the price, it's about as good as the area offers if you need a halfway decent place for a few days.

It's easy to get around without a car since the hotel is central, walkable, and close to restaurants, shopping, and parks. There was some mild construction next door, but it was surprisingly quiet despite that and the hotel's particular location. Security patrols helped us sleep comfortably. The roomy accommodations were comfortable and gave us space to relax after a long day. Prices were a real suite deal and didn't hit the wallet hard. Staff were genuinely welcoming and kind, and made a real effort with our disability needs from check-in through checkout. We felt well looked after. Great value, comfort, and service for budget travelers. Thanks to the lovely staff for making the stay inn-credibly pleasant!

Tess, Eric, Richard, Neil, and Ralph, the general manager, are awesome. My favorite hotel, with very large rooms and a hot breakfast from 7-10am: waffles, milk, cereal, OJ, and coffee.
