Dao House

Danna Frost was our photographer, and she knew how to find details that made the beautiful setting even better. The site was perfect for our wedding. I’ve never slept so well, either: the beds were cozy and the mountain air was crisp and fresh. Amazing experience!

The location and views are hard to beat. Dao House has a rustic, quirky feel, but it’s incredibly clean and comfortable. The staff were kind and helpful, and went above and beyond for us. There are thoughtful touches throughout, with enough service to stay connected when you need it, plus plenty of room to unplug. A comfortable, quaint hotel if you’re after a no-frills stay.

Dao house is a lovely, quiet place to spend real time face to face with family. There are books, board games, and plenty of hiking, all in a gorgeous setting with beautiful views. There’s no cell service, TV, or AC, so it’s a real break from the modern world. Bring your own coffee if you want it in the morning. Hot water was always available, but the coffee that was supposed to be ready by the leisurely hour of 7am never showed up, as far as I could tell. The mini pot for “early risers” hadn’t been set up on the first morning, and the coffee from it the next day had a distinct Asian Grocery scent coming from the kitchen. Still, don’t let that put you off staying here.

The thin walls made it easy to hear the three guys talking in the next room, even though they weren’t being loud or obnoxious. I had to use white noise to sleep, but it kept pausing because the internet was so bad. WIFI was extremely limited and barely usable, and there was no TV. They said two shared refrigerators were available, but the one we found was smaller than a dorm fridge and packed with other guests’ stuff. Breakfast was a joke, just pre-sliced bananas and halved muffins. From check-in to check-out, it was a horrible stay. The property looked abandoned, and the whole place gave off cult-like vibes that made me very uncomfortable. There was no comfort or relaxation here, quite the opposite.
