The old stone walls and neon sign out front give this place a sense of endurance. Arriving felt like pulling up to the royal tenenbaum residence, or walking into a real Ghibli movie. Inside, the furniture and decor seem original, as though they've always belonged there. Even the additions from the 20s, 40, 80’s, and today feel like they were meant for this building. Each room is different and has its own tub. I only saw the other rooms in online pictures, but the clawfooted tubs below street level are marvelous. I'm 5'10”, and the deep-sided tub was almost too big for me. There was a tray with all kinds of things to add to the bath, and the room had plants and antiques. I could almost feel all the generations of guests who'd enjoyed that same nook and tub. I really wish I'd booked more bath time. You'd be smart to book a bath every day anyway. I also had an excellent massage in the same place. For a wintery vacation, a hot bath with snow outside the window and great people around to help made it perfect.

Nothing about this place felt luxurious. It's old and gross. I saw what I thought was blood on the bathroom floors, and the tubs were chipped and rusty. The steam cabins had wilted wood and felt awkward for everyone, and they didn't get hot enough. I couldn't bring myself to do our session. The price isn't worth it at all. Don't be fooled by the “historical” label. With any self respect, you'd be better off driving an hour to bentonville.

I had “The Works” at the spa, and it was great from beginning to end. The staff, atmosphere, and facilities were all lovely. It was my first time staying here, and the room was clean and cozy, with a beautiful view of the fall leaves. It's a beautiful old hotel, and I'll stay again.

Zandalee gave me one of the best full body rubdowns I've had. I added aroma therapy and cupping, and it was well worth it. By the end, I nearly had to be scraped off the table. I'll make this a regular stop when I'm in town for arts, writing, or hiking the trails. Next time I'll book 90 minutes. Worth every dime. I had the 60 minite works in their authentic 1901 era spa and bath house. The steam cabinet could've come right out of an Agatha Christie novel, except nobody sealed me in and boiled me to death. It was extremely relaxing, especially with rain outside. The heat and steam did something almost ephemeral for my joints. I could've stayed in there until I was a lobster. The tubs have piping hot water and are long enough for a six-foot man to stretch out. After sitting and soaking for more than 20 minutes, I did wish I'd brought earbuds for music or something to read.

Our room was clean and very large, though fairly expensive. We stayed at the Palace from 10/20 through 10/26. Someone was at the desk when we checked in Monday, then nobody came back until Thursday. We got a code to enter the building. On Thursday we had to ask for clean towels and toilet paper because the room hadn't been serviced. We were assigned a suite on the first floor right beside the front door. People coming and going made it noisy, and since it faced the sidewalk, we couldn't open the blinds. Be aware of the cancellation policy, or lack of one: they require a 50% NON REFUNDABLE deposit regardless of how far ahead you request it.
