American Inn worked well for a quick, affordable, comfortable stay. The beds and bathrooms were fine, and the staff gave good service. It’s in a decent spot, near Green River Rd. and the Lloyd Expressway turnoff.

For a cheap night, this place is usable. The staff were kind and answered my questions, and the room was clean with fresh sheets. We only stayed one night, which probably helped. I wouldn’t choose it for a longer visit, and I’ll likely stay somewhere else next time I pass through Evansville. The room itself was dark and a bit dingy. I liked the firm mattress, but the blankets were thin and the pillows small. We had a two double room with two pillows on each bed. The bathtub was really slippery, and there was shampoo but no conditioner. It was dusty enough that somebody had written in the dust and nobody had noticed. I found that funny, but you might care about a dusty room. I’d been told there’d be free breakfast, but there wasn’t, which was a big disappointment near the end of our trip when we were trying to keep costs down. The stay wasn’t great, but you can sleep here, and sometimes a clean room and nice staff are enough when you need somewhere quick and cheap.

The beds were surprisingly comfortable for me since I like firm mattresses, and I didn’t see any bed bugs. The building still smells of stale cigarettes, though, since it used to allow smoking. We were told there’d be breakfast, but there wasn’t, and there was no conditioner either. Some outlets felt loose and janky. At one point we heard a scream, though I can’t say for sure it came from inside the building.

For less than a hundred dollars, I was satisfied. The staff were friendly, I didn’t see any bugs, and there are washers and dryers. Nobody was constantly bothering us to ask if we needed towels, either. The room was decent for the price, better than the fleabag motels where drug users and sex workers turn tricks, though not as nice as most of the pricier Extended Stays. There’s no sauna, indoor pool, or pointless gym, and I’m fine with that at this price.

I paid $140 for one night, which didn’t feel worth it when I’d seen the online rate at $50 a night and a phone reservation cost more. The bedding had cigarette burns, even though the front desk woman made a point of telling us smoking wasn’t allowed under state law. We don’t smoke. The room looked clean, but you can’t really know how clean it is without being told when the sheets and bedding were washed.
