Spark by Hilton Evansville Downtown

We had to stay because my Dad had just been admitted to the hospital shortly after midnight, and the hotel was right across the street. Otherwise, I would’ve asked for a refund and gone somewhere else if we’d had more time. I definitely don’t recommend it. The staff service was good, and they changed our room without any trouble when we asked. The first room smelled musty and had roaches. Unfortunately, the second wasn’t much better: it was musty, dirty, and clearly needed repairs or replacement items.

The room was the problem. It smelled strongly of cheap cologne, the shower door was moldy, and there was toothpaste smeared on the sink. The bed was comfortable, though, and breakfast was good, nothing special. The worker apologized and said the room was on the list for a deep clean. My point was that it shouldn’t have been rented in that condition. Maybe another room would’ve made the visit better. I expect more from a Choice hotel. The hotel is just north of downtown, inexpensive, and close to where we planned to go. The older building looked okay, and the front desk person was very friendly and assured us the area was safe.

Service was okay, and the location didn’t matter to us. The room smelled musty when we entered. The pillows were laughable, and the decorative top sheet was stained. There was dirt and hair in the bed, and the headboard looked damaged and sad.

It was extremely loud at 4am, and they wouldn’t give me a late checkout even though I’d just left the hospital 12 hours before the funeral. Compassionate customer care would take this hotel further. I won’t try them again. Spend a little more for a much better experience.
