Everglades City Motel

The TV remote didn't work, and the room's cleanliness left a lot to be desired. There were signs that a little lizard had been in the room before us, and we even saw it scurrying around. A rustic, nature themed stay might come with more nature than you expect here. More careful cleaning would help.

It's very convenient for things to do in Everglades City, and check-in was easy at another hotel half a mile away. They even let us check in early. The upgrades to this 1950s style motel are nice, especially the modern, comfortable bathrooms, and the room was immaculate. Still, it's a basic room, and $225 a night felt like quite a lot.

The rooms were clean and a good size, but one of ours wasn't ready when we arrived, and the cleaning staff seemed stretched thin. It's a typical motel, with no services on site and check-in in a different building up the road. The beds could be better, though for what you pay, you get what you get.

The two bedroom apartment had been remodeled, but it wasn't worth $200 a night after taxes. For our wedding anniversary, we ended up in a sparsely furnished room with flea market furniture. Two of the three fan remotes were missing, the kitchen faucet was loose, the microwave buttons were broken, and the toilet and seat both moved. The walls were very thin, and I had to shower with moths in the bathroom. I don't know how this compares with other places in Everglades City, but I won't stay here again. To me, it's worth about $80 a night.
