Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Portsmouth Exeter

The room itself was fine, but the front desk needs work. The employee who checked us in had marked us as a no-show, even though we’d emailed and messaged through the app beforehand to say we’d arrive late. He didn’t know the breakfast or pool hours. Every Pepsi in the cooler was expired; we reported it Saturday, and the drinks were still there when we left Monday. The guest washer made our clothes much dirtier, and the elevator seemed never to have been vacuumed and smelled unpleasant. Our back-to-back reservations were mixed up, so management pounded on our door at 10:30 am the day before we were supposed to leave, asking who was in the room. When I asked about the bill to get things sorted, the front desk became snippy and condescending.

I love this hotel. We went to The Big Bean, but they didn’t have chocolate chip pancakes, so we got food at the Burger King in Starhm and then McDonald’s in Exter next door. After eating, we went to the pool, played sardines and hide and seek, then slept. We had breakfast before leaving. I was so excited to stay here. Dad booked it Wednesday for our Friday stay, and our first room, 307, had only one bed. We got another room, 217, and it was perfect with two beds. We had our plushies with us, as usual. You should check it out, guys.

I booked through the BonVoy app as a Marriott Elite Gold member, and there was no notice anywhere that the hotel was under construction. Arriving to find the lobby and restaurant area fully under construction was shocking. Workers were also doing major work elsewhere in the hotel during our stay. Our first room’s toilet wouldn’t flush, so we had to move. The second room wasn’t clean, and construction was happening in several rooms around us. The whole place felt like a disaster and shouldn’t have been open. The General Manager’s response to my complaint was atrocious. Horrendous experience, bad ownership and management. Don’t stay here.

The staff were kind, attentive, and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and had plenty of choices. 10/10, would recommend.
