Residence Inn by Marriott Philadelphia West Chester/Exton

Pat, the manager at the front desk when I checked in, turned a rough day around. She was cheerful, personable, and went above and beyond to make sure everything about my stay was right. Breakfast was another highlight. The woman looking after it was so friendly and sweet, made sure people had what they needed, kept everything tidy, and restocked things as needed. The whole weekend was full of good moments, and the employees didn’t disappoint. I’d certainly stay here again.

I checked out within 20 minutes of arriving. There was a strong marijuana smell outside, and when I asked if that was normal, the attendant said it was legal here. I was tired, so I checked in anyway. The couch looked like it had just been swept, but when I looked closer, I saw what looked like a blood stain and another stain. In the separate bedroom, only one light worked, and I had to wiggle the switch to get it on. I could have put up with that, but the stains disgusted me. On my way out I noticed dents in the fridge door too, things I’m sure they might try to charge me for as incidentals.

We had booked two rooms through Expedia for the night of Oct 25-Oct 26 and asked in advance for them to be near each other. We checked into the Residence Inn Marriott in Exton around 11 p.m., but the rooms were on completely different floors. Staff didn’t try to help or show concern, and were rude and dismissive when we explained it was a special request. There were three people in each room. One had a queen bed and the other a king, but neither had the sofa bed described online. When we asked for a rollaway, we were told none were available and that the third person should “sleep on the couch.” After a long day of travel, we expected basic courtesy and help from the front desk. The response was indifferent and unhelpful, and the experience fell short of Marriott’s standards. We won’t stay at this location again or recommend it to anyone expecting good service or reliable room arrangements.

The breakfast was pretty gross, and the walls were paper thin. Security doors didn’t work, the shower still had painter’s tape on it from construction, and the toilet paper holder wasn’t even attached to the wall. Definitely stay somewhere else.
