Hilton Garden Inn Fairfield

I’ve been a Hilton Garden Inn member for years and have stayed at this hotel several times, but I wouldn’t consider returning. The carpets are dingy and filthy, and the prices are incredibly high for rooms that don’t come close to matching what you pay. I was also worried about bedbugs. The open common area felt completely stale. I strongly advise against staying here.

For a two-night stay, housekeeping never brought fresh towels, emptied the trash, or made the bed. The room also felt outdated in some ways, including the tub and shower combo I haven’t seen in years. There was no complimentary breakfast, just coffee. Compared with other three-star hotels, the breakfast options seemed a little expensive, and I’d expect at least a basic continental breakfast to be included. For the price, some services were missing.

We found marks on the curtains that looked like blood drops, green splatter on the bathroom-area walls, and a mildew smell mixed with isopropyl alcohol. The room and the overall experience with the staff, other guests, and missing amenities were a big disappointment. Parking was a nightmare, probably because the hotel is near popular shopping areas and may have been hosting holiday events. Booking started out well. The employee who took our call was quick and understanding when my husband and I had trouble using a third-party site to book a room for us and our toddler. He honored that site’s price and said free breakfast was included, which makes mornings much easier with a toddler. About 30 minutes before check-in, we called to ask if we could arrive early and leave our bags before heading to Friendsgiving. Another helpful employee said the room was ready and early check-in was fine. When we got there, parking was full. After driving around for a while, we finally found a space and unloaded our overtired toddler, who badly needed sleep. The lobby and halls were full of loud, obnoxious, intoxicated people. Maybe there was an event, but I wish we’d been told before booking, especially since they put us on the ground floor. I thought the noise would stop when the bar closed at 10, but there was shouting through the halls late into the night and early morning, and it disrupted both our toddler’s sleep and mine. After that rough night, we were told breakfast wasn’t included because we’d booked through a third party, directly contradicting what the hotel employee had told us. I’m sure there was some code in the POS when the employee honored the third-party price, but since it was only one night, we didn’t think it was worth a bigger argument. I’m writing this so future customers know. I won’t stay here again. We should have gone with our first choice, the Marriott courtyard across the overpass. I’ve stayed with that company before and had a slightly better experience, though I’m not sure if they include breakfast.

The room was nice, though it had an old tub instead of a walk-in shower. The front desk staff were very nice, and the bartenders were amazing. There are lots of restaurants around. This place is my go-to now for Fairfield.
