A Riverside Inn Travelodge by Wyndham

I travel for hotels around 250 days a year and have status with a hotel chain, so I've had plenty of stays. This was one of my worst. The room cost $170, but it was filthy, stained, and had holes in the walls. For that kind of money I expect better quality. Honestly, it should have been about $100 less. At $70, fine. At $170, no. The shower had almost no pressure, the water smelled bad, and the tub was stained. I felt dirtier after showering. There was also a loud, large party next door. They offered another room, but I was exhausted, had unpacked my whole suitcase, and would have had to pack it all again. There's no elevator, and with my bad back, moving was a huge hassle. Nobody offered to help. Then they said I had been “screaming” at the front desk. I wasn't. I calmly explained I was unhappy with the room, but the manager didn't offer a satisfactory solution. This place is seriously gross. Avoid it.

The location is nice, just off Main Street and near the river, and the staff were friendly. The common areas were decent too. Fairplay doesn't have many lodging options, so this might be the best choice around, but it's still far from perfect. Our room was basic, with two beds, a TV, dresser, and bathroom. The bathroom badly needed maintenance, with heavy cracking in the paint and walls and rust and lime stains in the tub.

The room looked dirty and grungy, and the paint needed touch-ups. There was a leaking bathroom faucet, old guests' trash still in the bin, and their coffee filter still sitting in the coffee maker. A dump, and way too expensive for what it was.

We were in town for a wedding and stayed two nights with our little non-shedding dogs, who wear diapers in the room. The pet fee was $20 per dog per night, and with everything we paid over $600. The rooms were lackluster, though the location was good. Staff were rude and unhelpful, and at this price I expect better manners. Maybe they charge whatever they want because they're the only hotel in town, but it felt like a rip-off. We travel a lot and usually spend much less. Breakfast was cold too. We'll stick with Hilton hotels. If we come back to the area, we'll look for an Airbnb or VRBO for that money, or stay in another town. Not worth it.
